CPMP is a founding member of two important coalitions: the Coalition for Effective Public Safety (CEPS) and Californians United For A Responsible Budget (CURB).
CEPS is a coalition of labor and advocacy groups who push for state investments in the infrastructure that truly makes our communities safer – increased health care, social services, education, worker’s benefits.
CURB is a broad based coalition of over 40 organizations seeking to CURB prison spending by reducing the number of people in prison and the number of prisons in the state. CURB members believe that the only solution to the state’s growing prison crisis is by reducing the number of people locked up.
These two coalition host events such as the annual “Beyond Prisons” lobby day, workshops on the state legislative process and prison legislation, and serve as a public voice for reducing the amount of money spent on prisons.
